Curious about Scheepjes' lovely new yarn collection, Terrazzo? It's a DK weight felted tweed yarn made from a premium blend of 70% Recycled Mulesing Free Wool and 30% Recycled Viscose. Inspired by the mosaic style terrazzo floors of Italy, this yarn has a subtle speckled color effect, achieved by twisting fibers of contrasting and complementary colors.
Scheepjes Terrazzo benefits from the breathability of wool and viscose and combines the best qualities of both. Lightweight Viscose is moisture absorbent and gives a silky soft feel with a beautiful drape, while the wool contributes the rustic appearance and incredible warmth.
This makes Terrazzo suitable for a diverse range of crochet and knitting projects of all shapes and sizes: from clothing, such as sweaters and cardigans, to fashion accessories and homeware.
It's perfect also for knitting and crocheting in multiple colors and can be effectively combined with Scheepjes yarns in other textures, such as Alpaca Rhythm and Mohair Rhythm.
Responsibility and Sustainability
As a company, Scheepjes is constantly looking for opportunities to innovate and become a more sustainable brand that offers responsible choices for eco-conscious crafters. Terrazzo is Scheepjes' first fully recycled fiber yarn, and its wool content is guaranteed to be mulesing-free. To give customers confidence that this yarn is safe and free from harmful chemicals, Terrazzo also holds the trusted OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances.
What does Mulesing Free mean?
Mulesing is a controversial agriculture practice in the wool industry that can be harmful and painful to sheep. "Mulesing free" means that the wool is sourced from farmers who do not practice this technique in the interest of their animals' welfare.
Terrazzo comes in 60 beautifully coordinated colors that can be purchased individually in 50 gram (192 yards) balls and in a color pack of 10g (38 yard) mini-balls. The recommended hook and needle size of 4.00mm provides a gauge of 27 stitches x 35 rows to 10cm.
